Achieving the body beautiful with Shapewear

Slimming Down with Shapewear

A full bodyshaper can pull in waist, bum, tummy, midriff and backFor those who are strong willed, self motivated and determined there is diet and exercise – for the rest of us there is shapewear. Whichever category you fall in to, the appearance (even if only temporarily) of the body beautiful is achievable.

Even if you do spend hours in the gym, there are still stubborn areas of fat or dimply cellulite that refuse to shift no matter how many tummy crunchers, sit ups or squats you do.

My first experience with a panty girdle many years ago (at a time when I didn’t actually need to be any slimmer) proved to be a very uncomfortable experience. I chose the tightest fit I could wriggle into which felt as if my bladder had been compressed to half it’s normal size – the result of which was that my first date with a new guy and half the time was spent in the toilet. Not only did 2 sips of wine bring on the need to pee, but it took 10 minutes to peel off and on again. Emerging red faced and sweaty, that was the last time until recently that I attempted to change my body shape with any form of control underwear.

In todays lingerie world it’s a different story, bodyshapers of all types are made with modern materials usually with generous amounts of Spandex and even firm control garments are comfortable to wear. Some women will only feel the need to wear a medium control panty girdle at certain times of the month, others will want full bodyshapers for every special occasion they attend.

Whatever parts of your body need re-shaping, there is slimming underwear available for the job. High waist control pants or panty girdles are great under trousers or pencil skirts as they lift the bum and flatten the tummy, full bodyshapers can include the bra or be ‘underbust’ versions and are ideal for tight fitting dresses, either will smooth and flatten all areas including midriff, back, waist, tums and bums, and waist cinchers are perfect for pulling in that extra inch or two to give the impression of an hour glass figure.

Always wash before first wear, and don’t make the mistake of buying too small in an attempt to drop another dress size, you will be not only be uncomfortable but any fat you have has to come out somewhere!

Shapewear can compliment any woman’s wardrobe but it is not a substitute for a good diet, fresh air and exercise and at some point it does have to come off.  A properly toned and healthy body will be with you 24/7.

Tights from Fashion Week Move Away from Bright Gaudy Colours

Some of the tights worn on the catwalk in fashion week

Fashion Tights today have the means to inject real oomph into any outfit, and with the huge array of colours, patterns and fabrics, these fashionable head-turning accessories with their assortment of details can accentuate any look you are wanting to achieve. Heaps of eyes had been waiting for Fashion Week runways during September which is always a hectic month for lovers of fashion, and the latest trends and from London to New York, Paris and Milan, leading designers have brought out their 2013-2014 collections, with tights being a hot favourite.

Tights from the collections shown at Fashion Week are somewhat more toned down; more classical with sheers featuring broadly across the different designers. Bright funky colours are not as ‘in’ this year as last year and you should be looking at darker colours like blues, maroons, browns and dark reds in muted shades. The upcoming season’s colours are certainly more dark along with nude/natural colours.

With chilly weather, you can really turn up the heat with the fabulous selection of tights (which in our opinion are an indispensable item of clothing in any wardrobe), helping legs look streamlined and sleek and providing jaunty warm comfort. A trendy selection of tights seem no longer to be seen as a necessary essential but as pieces of high-fashion hosiery.

Get the Look with More Neutral Colours
Designers have really put emphasis on fashion tights this year, with emphasis being on quality and style. To this end wool, cotton, viscose and cashmere have been used for tights, making them even more soft, comfortable and luxurious than ever. Fishnet tights are still very much in vogue, but this year the pattern is also more toned down, so that the saucy, cabaret style gives way to more classy, smaller net styles. In fact many of the tights from Fashion Week were the trendy micronet tights, which were shown adding a touch of femininity to different outfits.

Put away bright gaudy colours for the end of 2013-2014 and opt for must-haves black and white, which is a trendy way to tone down any ‘too- colourful’ outfits you may want to don next Spring or Summer season.

Tights v Stockings – Which Would you Choose?

Tights Versus Stockings

These days practicality hasn’t been sacrificed for glamour, and today’s tights don’t only reflect the very latest trends, with them you can express your personality while also hiding any minor skin imperfections (such as varicose veins, blemishes ect) and protecting your legs from the elements. With either tights or stockings you can update your leg looks, enjoy wearing the hottest trends, and look as demure or as downright outrageous as you want.

Chic Detailing

Using fabrics and designs to suit any lifestyle or choice of fashion, tights are a versatile accessory in your wardrobe, and whether you opt for sheer tights in solid colours, fishnet, florals or checks, this adaptable hosiery is a perfect choice for any occasion or situation. Made from nylon, lycra or cotton they are worn tight-fitting from the feet to the waist primarily by girls and women, but with an increasing market for males of all ages who are now wearing them too under suits and sportwear or just because they like it!

Natural tights are soft and with a matt appearance, the natural look makes them great to wear every day. Available in a number of shades, not only do legs look perfectly toned, but there is also a special range of tights known for their slimming-control features, figure-support, and invisibility under your clothes giving you a smooth and firm look. But if tights are so flattering and multi-faceted, who needs stockings?

Nylon Stockings came about in 1939 and silk stockings first made their debut in 1940. Stockings unlike tights, cover the foot and only the half of the top part of the leg. They are similar to tights in that they make the legs look streamlined, smooth and free of blemishes and this means you can wear a short dress or skirt with more confidence. Many women prefer to wear tights for everyday use but they keep stockings for special moments when they want to feel sexy in their underwear, others prefer the irresistible feeling of a natural air flow and freedom they get from a pair stockings.

Stockings can be worn with suspender belts in sizzling colours and fabrics in either modern or glamorous retro styles, which for some contributes to a feeling of sensual sexiness – or as holdups, where a silicon band keeps them in place. If you are battling with ailments like thrombosis or edema, compression stockings are specialized elastic hosiery which exerts pressure against the legs, increasing blood flow and these too are becoming available in colours other than ‘tan’.

Tights which Voice Your Style

These days with health and comfort on everyone’s minds, there seems to be a divide in opinions as whether stockings or tights are the better option. Many women will tell you that stockings are only good as a fan belt when your car breaks down or that stockings and suspenders have passed their sell-by date, others will say there has been a massive comeback and that they are now the most popular legwear. In the bedroom, whether its the man or the woman wearing them, sizzling hot stockings definitely win hands down. On the other side of the coin, there is definitely a wider choice of stylish fabrics and trendy patterns available in tights.

Retro Style Fashion – The ‘Lost’ Glamour of the 1950s

Back to the 50’s. – Although retro style hosiery & lingerie is now highly popular, the glamour of the 50’s has been lost.

Retro Style Suspender Belts

In the modern world, retro style hosiery and lingerie is very popular and as all fashions seem to have a ‘cycle’, vintage underwear has come back with a bang. Envisage some of the advertisements and the display of provocative women dressed in 40’s and 50’s design modern lingerie on television and in magazines. Even so, the styles seen as an improvement of the 1950s do not capture the glamorous aspect of the ladies of the1950’s somehow. They always seemed immaculately dressed, had impeccable manners, and just looked so well groomed. Maybe I’ve just watched too many old films…..

So, can we claim that the era of preserving a lady’s modesty while bringing out an androgynous silhouette is over? There has no doubt been an improvement in style attributed to sophistication and a change in the material used to make undergarments; but today’s retro hosiery and lingerie styles bear an uncanny resemblance to those of the late 40’s & 50’s.

How the styles have been copied
Over time, the material used in making the hosiery and lingerie has become lighter leading to a change in the style. For example, a 1950’s bra was conical, giving support to the female form and exposing attractive curves. The need to bring back the lost glamour of those days has influenced fashion over the years leading to the creation of retro style stockings, shapewear such as girdles and waist chinchers, and suspender belts.

Retro Lingerie
Most people do not consider women’s underwear and night clothes to be accessories, but in the 1940s and 1950s, lingerie was important in the creation of an attractive silhouette. The material used in making modern lingerie is mostly cotton which is softer; thus, easier to wash and better for hygiene. Even with a change in the material, the objective of the undergarments remains the same – to create an attractive figure. As such, the design is similar to that of the old classics with regards to pretty lace fabric that stretches and moulds the body. You have to agree that the modern day bikini panties are a copy of the briefs worn in the 1950s. Back then, pants reached the waist and were more like shorts, when cut lower they were called hip-huggers which women wear today – therefore, only the length has changed.

Retro lingerie is not complete without mentioning the copy of the pointed cone bras and the wonder bras introduced in the late 1950s. The wonder bra as we all know was styled to show cleavage and also accommodate larger breasts or even portray them as being larger than they actually are. The need to fit into the new wonder bra led to the invention of the fastener and extender which is a common feature in retro lingerie.

Retro Hosiery
Hosiery has seen the reintroduction of 1940’s-50’s seamed nylons and stockings fully fashioned using soft materials (spandex), bobby socks (ankle socks) and sexy seamed fishnets. Modern fashion has seen the re-awakening of retro style modified suspender belts which serve as a fashion statement rather than just to perform the task of holding up a pair of stockings. Today’s belts are an imitation of the 1950’s glamour styles which are comfortable to wear, make the woman feel sexy, and have the same effect on men as they did back then in that they are fascinated by the curvy feminine look.

Girdles, roll-ons and were a staple part of a ladies wardrobes back in the day but although we can now choose whether or not to wear it, there is a lot to be said for today’s copies of the styles of the 50’s. Shapewear based on retro styles smooth other outer garments and helps conceal our problem areas brilliantly, but it is a personal choice as to whether you wear it or not.

Wrap up For Winter 2013

Winter Tights for 2013

Since returning to the UK, I dread winter. I hate the cold, grey skies depress me and constant central heating makes me feel stuffy and lethargic. A friend once said to me, ‘but don’t you miss the changing seasons’? The seasons do change in Spain, and once you have acclimatised, the winter evenings can be really cold – but during the day the sun is out and the sky is blue, fantastic. Love it. Still, I guess we have to make the most of what we have and ‘wrapping up’ is a normal part of living through the British winter.

Tights have always played an important part in keeping warm and looking great through the cold season, especially for the office where it may not considered acceptable to wear leggings. Winter tights these days can be just as thick and warm as leggings and offer as much protection from the elements as their footless cousins. If you walk through London in rush hour during Autumn/Winter, you are likely to see hundreds of identical legs in plain black opaques, however with the vast range of opaques in various deniers, patterns and styles available for Winter 2013, it doesn’t need to be that way. Thick coloured tights, when matched with plain clothing can be just as suitable for the office as black, but if you choose to remain with dark or neutral colours, you can liven up your legwear by buying a pair with delicate prints or embroidery.

For those lucky women who don’t have to go to work, stay at home mums, or homeworkers, they can take advantage of the full range of winter fashion tights available.  Bright colours, metallics, retro styles, tights with a distinct design or bold
pattern are all available to combine with many outfits and other accessories to give you a perfect look for the Autumn / Winter season. Thick patterned tights are a great way to enable you to keep wearing your favourite short skirts despite
the cold, as well as being a fun way to liven up or revitalise any outfit.

Tights are a fantastic winter fashion accessory – practical, warm, fashionable, functional and sexy to boot. Team some of the Autumn/Winter collections of thick opaques with fur accessories and you will be bang on trend and adopting the
only stylish way to cope with the cold weather.  Take a look at our thick opaques and fur accessories, team them together and have a wonderful and warm 4th Quarter!

The Insider’s Guide to Bodystockings

Fishnet Bodystocking
Lingerie comes in all shapes and sizes, from dental floss thongs to scaffolding style corsets.
Lingerie can be daring and sexy or functional and demure, but if you are looking to create an impact in the bedroom, nothing beats a bodystocking for maximum thrill factor.

Head to Toe Sex Appeal

Bodystockings are an all-in-one lingerie garment. Designed as a sexy head to toe catsuit, body stockings are not for the faint hearted. They leave virtually nothing to the imagination and are definitely not the kind of lingerie you should consider slipping into if you are having a ‘fat day’.

Sheer Delight

If you are looking to take your man to heaven and back, you can’t go too far wrong with a body stocking. There are lots of different types and styles from patterned fishnet bodystockings, floral lace all-in-one’s, crotchless and stripy body stockings all look extremely sexy when paired with a pair of spiky stiletto shoes and a sultry smile. Just turn the lights down low, pour a glass of nice wine, and look forward to an evening of pleasure.

You could also choose to wear a sexy bodysuit out in public, although due to the sheer nature of the material, it is advisable to wear undergarments or you may end up causing a bit of a stir.

How to Avoid Ruining Your New Body Stocking

Putting a body stocking on requires a certain level of care or you will end up tearing the delicate fabric and ruining your evening at the same time. For best results, exfoliate and moisturise the skin first as this will help the garment slip comfortably over the body. Slide the sheer fabric carefully up the legs and use your fingers to gently ease it up over the rest of the body. Take care not to snag the fabric with your finger nails.

Try not to worry too much though if your man loses control and tears the garment roughly from your body – sexy body stockings are relatively inexpensive and can easily be replaced!

What about patterned tights?

spot-patterned-tightsWhat age do you think is considered as ‘too old’ to wear patterned tights?

Our Opinion:

Age doesn’t matter as long as you are aware of your leg shape and choose wisely.

Large bold patterns don’t sit so well on larger legs and bold animal prints may not look so good on a lady in her 80’s (although some may be able to carry it off!). These days anything goes and patterned tights can be worn by all.

10 Things about Stockings Your Teachers Wouldn’t Tell You!

15 denier sheer stockings with lace top

Black & Red Lace Top Stockings by Gabriella

Fashion stockings are a fabulous accessory, but if you are not yet convinced  of their many uses, check out the following list:

1. Stockings are sexy – men love stockings, especially when they are worn with a suspender belt and saucy lingerie.

2. Men wear stockings too – sounds crazy, but a lot of men have a stocking fetish, which is why it is pretty easy now to find stockings in extra-large sizes.

3. Sales of men’s’ stockings have risen in the last twenty years – men often wear women’s stockings for stag parties and raucous nights out. Most of them don’t even bother shaving their legs first.

4. If you want to frighten men away buy some ‘hairy leg stockings’ – they look as hideous as they sound.

5. Fishermen sometimes wear stockings to protect against jellyfish stings – thin nylon acts as an extra protective layer to shield the skin from the pain of a jellyfish sting.

6. If you snag your stockings, you can repair the hole using clear nail polish – a cheap and easy trick when you don’t have a spare pair to hand.

7. Use a spare stocking to fix a broken fan belt in a car engine – nylon is incredibly strong and a stocking quick fix will be enough to let you reach the nearest garage.

8. If you choose stockings over tights, don’t wear a short skirt – every time you bend over your stocking tops will be on display, along with everything else.

9. Don’t apply too much moisturiser if you wear hold-up stockings – the silicon strips at the top won’t hold in place and you will spend the entire evening pulling them back up.

10. If you can’t afford to buy stockings or prefer a real retro look, use a biro to draw a line up the back for ‘faux seams’ or be truly adventurous and draw black criss-cross lines over your legs to mimic fishnet stockings – not
ideal, but better than nothing!
